- Virtual Language Centre: Web Concordancer
A concordancer is a type of search engine that looks for particular words. It looks through a large body of texts, called a corpus, and lists every single example of the word. It allows you to see how the word is used in context and what other words are used with it. Example: if you type in the noun gap, you can see that the verbs fill, close and bridge all collocate with it.
- OneLook Dictionary Search
This site is particularly useful for finding words that collocate or are related. It also has a 'reverse dictionary' function (if you know the definition but not the word) and can search for words that you are not sure how to spell.
